I have been using OctaMED SoundStudio On Classic A1200 for many years,
but i have been away from it a couple of years still waiting for it to be
reborn on the AmigaOS 4 :-)

Reading the news that there WILL be a MED SoundStudio V2 for OS4 and A1
early 2006 (hopefully), i would like to know what features we can expect :-)

This is so cool! biggrin.gif

Hello Helgis!

I really thought this discussion about the feature list of v2 was
already made at other places...

v2 will be nearly the same as v1.03c. Except for the drop of
the old soundcards/digitizers support and the add of AHI and
fixing some known bugs. Possibly new features will be discussed
at the beta test stage. Most important is the stability of the
new program for the first time and not adding new features!
But on the other side I have already written lots of nice
new code e.g. especially for the sampler. Another story would
be eXtreamSync from Davy Wentzler that will be integrated.

For this about 300KB of assembler source were replaced by
pure C source. And the old ~1.3MB C source got a complete
refactoring. Very nice work...

Regards!

Indeed..it's already a big step to introduce new PowerPC native SoundStudio. Let's walk before trying to run, shall we, Helgis?

It sounds very good, alright :-D

So hopefully we can soon start making amazing tunes for future games? :-D

hey guys, I am a big amiga fan, but would it be worth updating my sytem to a PPC system? a bit of advice would be great if anyone could help.

Thanks

Daz :-)

It depends smile.gif PPC systems are more expensive than typical PC configurations.

At first, try to find your nearest usergroup and check if they do demonstrate these new Amigas.

Hi Daz!

I dont know anything about your current Amiga system, but if you are
still 68k user and just can test an OS4 PPC system you will
never go back! :-)

Its VERY nice to have an 800MHz G4 CPU around, you can buy cheap gfx or
sound boards (using myself Radeon 9250 and Audigy), using DVD drives
and lots of other stuff which isnt available for the classic machines.

All you can get for 68k currently is very expensive second hand
stuff at e.g. eBay! Quite more expensive to spent money for e.g.
CyberStorm/BlizzardPPC, CyberVision or PicassoIV and an old
soundcard like Toccata or Prelude than buy a new machine I mean!

OS4 is flying here, even with old 68k software!!!

Gerd Frank

@Dazzy

If you have or can get an accelerator card with a PowerPC chip on it then you should be able to run AmigaOS 4 when it comes out. Some standalone PowerPC systems are coming out that would make it more practical since even the best accelerator cards are for 603e/604e G2-era PowerPC chips. The new stand-alones by contrast are typically G3 based and a few have G4s. (The stand-alone systems typically ship with a pre-release version of AOS 4.)

If you still use your Amiga a lot then upgrading will be practical but, as Capehill said, they will be more expensive than an equivalent PC (due to low-volume production).

I have a 933Mhz A1G4XE-system running Pre3 OS4.0 (soon OS4.0 Final!!!) :-D
