Like you, Blue, I write primarily for pleasure, but with a vague notion that one day it'll result in material wealth! It's taken me a long time to work this out, though.
If I was serious about making music my career then I'd quit my job, invest in software and hardware, and formulate a business plan. I know that I'm not because actually doing those things (which I've tried, half-heartedly, in the past) just doesn't excite me - I'd much rather be writing music than letters to record labels.
That's not to say that I wouldn't like exposure and money, it's just that the kind of recognition, feedback and 'fame' I want is specifically from other musicians whom I repect, and any money I make a bonus rather than a goal.
Talking of feedback, here's a link to my Soundclick page;
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/musicfirst_music.htmDownloading the tracks is free, but each time you listen to them you have to pay me £200, probably.
